A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I were able to get away by ourselves for a weekend away. It was a chance for us to spend some time as Steve & Becky, and not Mom and Dad. It was a great weekend but also a bit weird. Prior to this, it had been a few years since we did this and this time we were able to leave our children home by themselves, which was totally weird. It was hard for us to fathom that our kids were now old enough. Foggy Morning at Many Point Scout Camp, Ponsford, MN

Last week, I had the opportunity to go to Scout camp with Alanzo’s scout troop. We had so much fun last year so we were looking forward to this year. Unfortunately, the first couple of days were very rainy. So rainy, in fact, that we had a minor river running through our campsite from the main road until our scoutmaster was able to divert it away from our campsite. Two of our tents flooded. Once the rain stopped, our spirits lifted – the adults at least. The rain didn’t dampen the spirts of the boys and they enjoyed themselves nonetheless. I took very little pictures this year. Portland, Oregon Skyline (2013)

Another shot taken while my family was in Oregon in 2013. The Minneapolis skyline from a year earlier was still on my mind and I was keen to try and get a decent skyline of Portland. My original shot from an overpass, showing the light trails, was not what I wanted but, luckily, I had managed to get some shots from the park across the river.

Last year, Alanzo had the opportunity to go to Scout Camp for the first time and I was able to accompany him as an adult leader so I got to share the week with him. I didn’t grow up in scouts so it was a new experience for me. I was very proud of my son. I think both he, and I, grew a lot during our week up there. I brought my camera up mainly for the purpose of taking pictures of him and the other boys and documenting the week up there. Taken in June, 2011, on our family vacation to Oregon. This would be one of the few HDR pictures that I kept, mainly because when I tonemapped it I made a concerted effort to make it more natural-looking. We had a lot of fun taking pictures there. It’s really cool, and the driftwood on the beach is amazing. I do remember when I had the original HDR image processed the driftwood was really hard to look at. The HDR made the wood pop and it captured all the detail. It gave me a headache.

Fall at Sibley State Park, New London, MN

I was insanely glad that I kept the original RAW file for this. The picture was taken in October, 2011 at Sibley State Park. My wife, Becky, and I had managed to get a camping weekend by ourselves and we couldn’t have had a better time than we did. It was beyond gorgeous that weekend and it was really nice to have a weekend alone to reconnect.
